2017 Penn Relays

On April 28, 2017, ACE returned to Franklin Field to compete in the 123rd Penn Relays. Hosted annually by the University of Pennsylvania, the Penn Relays is the oldest and largest track and field competition in the Unites States. This year was a repeat performance for ACE’s Tim Cole, Tyler Slouf, Meredith Steenkamer, and Chanon Tuntivate. With a time of 12 minutes and 37 seconds, the team placed 12th out of 33 in the Corporate Distance Medley Relay. Not enough to win, but enough to beat our fiercest rival – Merck.

NCEES Northeast / Southern Zone Joint Interim Meeting

On April 27 – 29, 2017 members of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) met in St. Thomas, one of the U.S. Virgin Islands, for the Northeast / Southern Zone Joint Interim Meeting. Held each spring, the joint meeting was cohosted by the Virgin Islands Board for Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors and the Delaware Association of Professional Engineers (DAPE). As the Vice President of the Council for the DAPE, ACE’s Mike Lennon was invited to attend. Mike, along with delegates from various other state licensing boards, had the opportunity to hear and discuss reports from the NCEES and take in all that St. Thomas has to offer. We’ll see you next year in Maine!

STREAM Night at Penn London Elementary School

On March 31, 2017, ACE’s Ryan Beerley, Ian Burns, and Mike Lennon volunteered at Penn London Elementary School’s STREAM (Science, Technology, Robotics, Engineering, Arts, & Math) event. Hosted by the PTA, this free event included hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and make-and-take stations geared towards students in kindergarten through second grade. ACE brought our custom PLC-5 gaming system to educate students and their families on how control circuits are wired for lights, switches, and buttons; how the switches use binary math for game selection; how the programs are structured; and how mathematics plays a key role in computer game programming. Our thanks to all involved for a great night!
